One of our SEO Workshop Graduates recently wrote to me about some Visual Search Engines which I thought I would in turn, share with you. Many thanks to SEO Alumni, Paul Rasmussen for sharing these suggestions.
What is a Visual Search Engine?
A visual search engine is an search engine that gives you a way to explore search results “visually” and usually has some means of exploring that visual data in different ways or different types of views.
Watch this short video of the Visual Search Engine Viewzi.
As Paul in his note to me pointed out, “Viewzi is quite an amazing resource because it gives you a view or “concepts in images” etc together with a range of other stuff. Because of this new way of looking at your search results you have a substantially increased number of options open to you when researching a topic.”
If you have studied our stance on performing very thorough research for use in your optimization and search engine marketing work, then you’ll know that it’s great to have a variety ways to view data.
We’ve talked in detail about tools such as Keyword Discovery which has it’s own solid strengths.
But you may find that a tool such as Viewzi is also quite useful for expanding your thinking laterally and catching other related options that you may have otherwise missed.
You can give Viewzi a spin here and see what you think.

Another Visual Search Engine worth checking out is Quintura
Quintura is a Visual Search Engine that works with a word cloud.
The Quintura cloud or visual map shows the context of your query identifying those words and word combinations that are most closely connected with your search query.
Visualization of your query context is only portion of the value of mapping.
After your query is processed, the map is filled with words.
You can examine them and how they are related in detail.
The words shown in red are query words. Other words make up the context of the query. The mapped words are connected with the query words most closely.

Visual Search Engines are very useful visual search tools to both searchers (those who want to search more effectively.)
But they also may be quite valuable to those of us who are researchers and who want view results and manage search results in a little different way.
The way I would encourage you to try them out, is with respect to searching out behaviors and semantic relationships between words and phrases that your customers may be using for very specific topics. What part of the picture will you discover that you may have missed otherwise? One of the best ways to confirm what you find is to check it with a variety of methods or a variety of tools.
I think there is definitely a place for Visual Search Engines in the Lateral Thinker’s tool box. Thanks again to Paul Rasmussen for taking time to write and share these resources.
