Launching a new website?
There are benefits in not having your new site indexed immediately upon it’s launch. Wait until your website has some quality inbound links before you put it infront of the search engines.
As a general rule, if we are accused of a crime, we are presumed innocent until proven guilty. This is not the case with search engines – because of the enormous amount of spam websites, your new site will be deemed guilty of being spam until proven otherwise.
Prior to launching your new site, block search engine indexing either with a robots.txt file or robots meta tag (<meta name=”robots” content=”noindex, nofollow” />). Then allow yourself some time to build a few quality inbound links before removing the meta tag or editing your robots.txt file.
And remember, do not submit your site to the search engines – let them find you. With a few quality inbound links, this will happen within a few weeks.
